Volkswagen''s PowerCo secures battery materials supply deal

Volkswagen Group subsidiary PowerCo SE inked a five-year battery raw materials supply deal with Australia-based Novonix, according to a Nov. 24 press release. Under the agreement, Novonix will supply PowerCo with at least 32,000 tonnes of synthetic graphite material for EV battery production, starting in 2027.

Established by Volkswagen in 2022, PowerCo is committed to ramp-up global battery cell production. PowerCo oversees international factory operations, advances in cell technology, and vertical integration of the battery value chain.

Since its launch in July 2022, PowerCo has already decided three gigafactory locations: Salzgitter in Germany, Valencia in Spain and St. Thomas in Canada. The company plans to set up cell factories with a total capacity of 240 GWh/year in 2030.
